September Highlights |
September at Kinlochlaich
Autumn, season of forthcoming mists and mellow fruitfulness. Picking some early apples such as Discovery or following Scottish varieties as they become ripe: Scotch Dumpling, Galloway Pippin, Stirling Castle and the ’scotch’ Bramley gifted to us by Jim McKirdy. Flowering clethera which is so sweetly scented, long flowering fuchsias, and the last of the dahlias. These have such variety from the breeders and so easy to grow year by year, some planted out and others in the polyhouse in pots; each year adding other new or stylish varieties.
Autumn bulbs now in flower such as schizostylis, nerine, and crocus just below some sheltered and warm wall. Leycesterias continue flowering and the euchryphias are in full flower with weeks of promise into late mild autumns. Late clematis add to colour and some with seed heads add to the displays. Autumn hebes add vibrant colour. September can run beautifully into the next month, especially if there is an Indian summer. |
